Innovating the Future of Leadership
I actually don't like the word leadership any more. It implies hierarchy and one person saying how it's going to go. I know that may have worked in the capitalistic environment of the past. But we're moving now to a world that's more oriented to innovation and collaboration, with equality, diversity and inclusion as fundamental requirements to achieve both of these things.
It's a different world today. Remote working is here to stay. Technological innovation is so rapid that it's almost impossible to keep up. Ecological attention is at the top of the list. Capitalism is fading by making it all about profit before anything else, losing integrity, respect and consumers along the way. Today companies are having to rethink how they contribute to society, people and the planet as collaboration and innovation surge into the front lines of every area of life. It's time for leaders and managers to step out of the traditional hierarchical structure to become innovators and collaborators in rapidly morphing social and business landscapes.
As sources for innovation and collaboration new skills are required ...
It is simply not going to work to keep telling people what to do while overriding their unique contributions. I know that to some this can sound idealistic and perhaps inconceivable to achieve. But believe me it's much easier to achieve when you lessen the grip of dictatorial leadership, management reviews and departmental loyalty, replacing them with participative collaboration in an environment that inspires innovation. Because post 2020, innovation and collaboration are going to be where it's at! This creates adaptability in an ever changing world. This is the 'leadership' of the future, where creativity surges, innovation reigns and collaboration is the dynamic ambience embraced by all those who want to see us move forward now, as businesses, as nations and as a world.
